Good Faith Estimate and the No Surprises Act

At Avita PsyCare, we are committed to providing transparent, ethical, and client-centered mental health care. The No Surprises Act is a federal law that helps protect clients from unexpected medical bills and ensures clarity about the cost of services before treatment begins.

This page explains your rights under the No Surprises Act and how Good Faith Estimates apply to services provided at Avita PsyCare in New York.

What is a Good Faith Estimate?

A Good Faith Estimate (GFE) is a written estimate of expected charges for mental health services for individuals who:

  • Are self-pay, or
  • Choose not to submit claims to insurance

The estimate is intended to give you a clear understanding of anticipated costs for services such as therapy, assessments, or other clinical care.

When will I receive a Good Faith Estimate?

You have the right to receive a Good Faith Estimate:

  • Before starting services, or
  • Upon request, even before scheduling

If your appointment is scheduled at least 3 business days in advance, the estimate will be provided no later than 1 business day before the appointment.

If scheduled at least 10 business days in advance, the estimate will be provided within 3 business days of scheduling.

What does the estimate include?

Your Good Faith Estimate will include:

  • A description of expected services
  • Estimated fees per service or session
  • An estimated total cost over a defined timeframe
  • Provider and practice information

Because mental health treatment is individualized, actual services or total costs may change depending on clinical needs or treatment adjustments.

What if I am billed more than expected?

If you receive a bill that exceeds your Good Faith Estimate by $400 or more, you have the right to dispute the charges through the Patient-Provider Dispute Resolution process.

Insurance considerations

Good Faith Estimates are intended for clients who are not using insurance.

If you plan to use insurance, your out-of-pocket costs are determined by your specific plan and coverage.

Our team can help answer questions about billing and payment options before services begin.
